Chahamanas

Chahamanas
One of the four Rajput clans claiming agnikula origin, the Chahamanas ruled during 10th century, over a large area in eastern Rajasthan located to the southwest of Delhi. Within this region branches of the main clan ruled in adjacent tracts during the 10th to 12th centuries. These were originally feudatories of Pratiharas. The Chahamana principality of Ajmer became independent of Pratiharas during the 12th century and subjugated the Tomaras of Delhi in the second half of the 12th century. Their ruler Prithviraja III was defeated and overthrown by Muizz al-Din Muhammad Ghauri in 1192.
